Abstracts
Over the last few years I developed a passion for painting abstract designs. This is in total contrast to the realism of my earlier paintings, and a new and exciting development for me, but these things seem to go in cycles and now I'm back to the fish-paintings once again.
I have had some weird and crazy ideas, which somehow have found their way onto canvas. On more than one occasion my work area has been draped with old sheets, while paint was literally hurled around to achieve the desired effect. Often aiming for something new and different, sometimes with a hint of collage, bright vivid colours are a firm favourite.
A kind of "cartoon" style falls somewhere inbetween the above styles, and makes a welcome diversion. These paintings tend towards the "humorous" category, again bright and colourful, and often elicit smiles of delight from viewers.
Some paintings are simply stylized versions of realistic subjects, typical New Zealand icon designs being always popular. All are painted in acrylic, unless otherwise stated.
